| I posted in the classifieds that I was looking for some 5speed TT cams in perfect condition. I received a reply from Nick saying that he had some cams from his ’91 TT engine with 35,000 miles on them and that they were in perfect condition. I specifically asked him about the condition of the journals and lobes. I didn’t want any wear on them at all since the factory service manual allows no wear and has a 0.0006 inch tolerance on the diameter of the journals. He said that they were all “perfect.” He sent me some pictures of the cams and they appeared to be fine. When I received the cams I immediately inspected them. I saw that they were badly pitted on the journal and lobes. They look like the surface of the moon. It appears that they had something corrosive sprayed on them. The pitting is readily visible with the naked eye. I was insanely pissed that he had sent me a box of trash. I emailed him and told him about the condition of the cams and asked for a full refund, including what I paid him to ship this trash to me. I later sent him these pics which clearly show what was talking about. He said that he didn’t know much about engines and if these cams were usable with the pitting, so he forwarded the pics to an expert 300zx engine builder. I didn’t here from him for a few days, so I decided to forward the pics to Kyle at IPP, and cc’ed Nick, and asked him if the cams were usable. Kyle replied to both of us that they were not usable. He later replied to me saying that Nick had already sent the same pics to him and he had told him the same thing a few days earlier. That sounded really shady since he had already received the opinion of the trusted, unbiased third party and he still didn’t give me a refund. At some point in the email exchange he sent me an email saying that he would refund what I paid for the cams, minus what I paid him for shipping, but only if I shipped them back to him (which would cost another $30) or he said I could keep the cams and he would refund me about half of what I paid him. At the end of the email he had nerve give a page of strict packing instructions, as if this trash was very important to him. I suppose he wanted them in as good a condition as possible so he could scam someone else. I am contending that I should receive a FULL refund since he never should have sent these to me in the first place. It’s not like I received them and decided I didn’t like the color once I tried them on. The damage is obvious and I specifically asked him to look at those surfaces. He is contending that they only have 35,000 miles and they worked fine when he removed them. As if low mileage somehow trumps actual part condition.
